Golden Gate Park: an innocent first date
Let's begin with a simple one. A walk in Golden Gate Park's around the Staw Lake. It's a beautiful lake in the most famous park in san Francisco, and the Strawberry Hill is nearby. You can rent a boat, go swimming, see ducks, and discover a stunning waterfall. It's ideal for a romantic first date. There is also a Chinese pagoda, which is a very picturesque location.
Napa: the most romantic date idea
Napa Valley is about an hour north of San Francisco. Napa is a wine country — and wine is a synonym of a date, right? The scenery is similar to that of the south of France, with vineyards and beautiful hills. Are you feeling that romantic thrill coming already? You can go on a hot air balloon ride. It's worth the effort even that you need to get there before sunrise. The flight takes off while the sun rises over the vineyards and hills, creating a stunningly beautiful and romantic scene. You fly and drink local champagne. That's the date to remember forever. The most memorable and unusual first date spot? Checked.
Fort Mason: date like in a teenage movie
A true American classic date. In San Francisco, there is an old military base called Fort Mason where you can watch movies while staying in the car. This date can be either very romantic or turn into sex on a first date. Well, it’s the two of you to decide. Drive-in-cinema date? Yes, feels like a retro teenage romance. Just like in the movies that you are about to watch.
The Giants game: sports date
Going to a Giants game at a downtown stadium is also a classic. It's a great way to immerse yourself in local culture on a date. Even if you are not a real baseball fan! That sporty date is a date idea to enjoy something new together. The vibe at the game is intense so you will get emotional in any case, cheering or not. A boring game doesn’t mean a boring first date! It can be really romantic: you can simply sit and chat while holding hands.
Horses and the beach: romantic sunset date
There is a long beach that runs all the length of San Francisco. In the evening, you can ride horses on the beach as the sun is setting. A sunset date involving horse riding? It can almost beat the hot air balloon idea, but doesn’t require getting up that early. Romance levels of this date are incredibly high — and don’t be scared to look too romantic. Many of my friends highly recommend this date spot.
Academy of Science Nightlife: science date but with wine
Now that’s the date night idea that I enjoy even on my own. There's Academy of Science which is a massive polytechnics museum. It is both popular and technologically advanced. Normally, you’d go there with your kids during the day, but… Academy of Science in San Francisco also has nightlife. There are evening events that are perfect for a date. Wine included. Drinks and romantic vibes on a date in that scientific and academical surroundings? This date is a truly unique experience in a unusual location.
Paragliding at Fort Funston: date with a view of San Francisco
Seeking a more extreme date idea in Bay Area? Fort Funston is a paragliding spot on the city's south side. My brother tried it and his resume? It is breathtaking! And it can turn in a breathtaking first date. Imagine: you get to fly over the Pacific Ocean and see the city beneath you. This is a great option for the two of you if seeking an adrenaline kick on a romantic yet exciting date in San Francisco.
Mini-Golf: date with beer and giggle
Returning to another American classic, we have a sweet idea for a date. Play miniature golf! It's a quirky date with a person you don't know that well. This date is amusing, and also very American: you drink beer and hit balls into various themed holes. Find a mini-gold course anywhere. Any spot will bring you the atmosphere of typical San Francisco.
The Chalmers Terrace: date spot with cocktails and a view
Corny? Well, even so it’s still beautiful. And idea for a date when you don’t want to try too hard. A beautiful restaurant date on a terrace is best in the evening. Why? This place makes excellent cocktails. The Chalmers has an upstairs bar with a fantastic view. It's suitable for drinks and socialising! Even if your date doesn’t work out romantically, you will still enjoy your evening together.
Sausalito: bikes, dinner and ferry on a date
An whole adventure on a date. You can do it all in a day. Rent a bike and ride to the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Ride slowly above the ocean — that takes about two hours. And it’s worth the ride to Sausalito. The small town of Sausalito next to San Francisco is a very romantic spot for a date. It’s like mini-Italy, almost cartoony. Yachts and beautiful houses are a great romantic scenery for a dinner date in a local restaurant. Take a ferry back (you can bring your bike on a ferry, yes). That can make a whole day of a date, more like a romantic day trip in San Francisco for the two of you.
Roller skating at Church of 8 Wheels and yoga at Grace Cathedral: active and sweaty date
Want to do something sweaty on a date? No, not that hot yet. Let's talk about sports. These are two cool sweaty and very unusual date spots in San Francisco. A Church of 8 Wheels roller skating disco is located in a former Catholic church building. People in unbelievable costumes, all lit up — you can experience Burning Man. And it is open all year round! Hold hands, sweat and laugh on a date — that’s the idea to get closer. Another cathedral worth the sweat is Grace Cathedral. It is located on a hill and offers a beautiful view. And yes, you can do yoga on a date there. This date can lead you on a sort of a spiritual journey for two.
Ice Cream Museum: a really cool date idea
An instagrammable but still cool date spot in San Francisco? Yes. The Ice Cream Museum is where all hipsters go for dates and photos. It's a massive art space where everything looks like a true Hello Kitty house. It's a popular date spot where tickets always sell out in no time so plan in advance. The date spot is not that unique for those who live in San Francisco. But if you want to charm a newcomer — that’s the place! You can think of it as a Disneyland for adults.
Sunset on Grand View Hill: a sunset romance date spot
Grand View is a hill in the middle of San Francisco. It is one of my favourite date spot to go out on a date with my wife. The view is spectacular, one of the best views of San Francisco I have ever seen. The sunset view of the ocean is something special and romantic. That spot lets you see the whole city bathed in light from beginning to end. It's amazing that this area in San Francisco is not yet too touristy. Locals come here to drink tea and watch the sunset. For the most cozy date remember to take a blanket with you. Cuddle up when it get windy.
Bonus: 4 date ideas for a really sexy date in San Francisco
Sex vibes in San Francisco are all about being relaxed. “Sexy” in this city means being yourself, feeling comfortable and attractive even in your pyjamas. And also about being a little crazy. It's about being open and free, not about glamorous pornography or elite but cold beauty.
- San Francisco is the LGBTQ+ capital of America (and the whole world too. Wanna make a super-special date for your LGBTQ+ partner? The top date idea is the Pride then. Pride is a must-see for everyone, regardless of sexuality. My family and I went to see it for several years because it is a celebration of openness and freedom here. The Pride fest is in June. Take your life partner or bring the whole family and get on a festival date or a family day out.
- The Folsom Street Fair is a queer BDSM festival that is NOT suitable for families. This is where the crazy happens: you'll see dressed-up men practicing anilingus on the street. It takes place once a year.
- AsiaSF is the lighter side of things. Fancy something less physical on a date? Ok, here is a spot date in San Francisco. Go there on a restaurant date with a mind-blowing drag performance. It's really entertaining! Even if the show is sort of bad. A bad show can give you even more topics to talk about on a first date then a good show. But we think you will enjoy this date idea in any case!
- If you are looking to get straight to sex, but on a date and in (or with) public — that’s the idea. There's the spot called Power Exchange, a true classic. A very old sex club where people go to relax and have sex. You can say it's just a large orgy house. Not the most traditional romantic idea for a date but hey, we are all different.
