Outlook at the Old Elbe Tunnel
A perfect place to start a first date is in the middle of the port of Hamburg. You meet at the entrance to the historic Elbe tunnel, take the elevator down, marvel at the beautiful tunnel from 1912, cross the river underneath it, and then reach a viewpoint on the other side that offers an incredible view of Hamburg's harbour. There is no kiosk or anything like that around. Bring your own drinks and see whether your date really is a match. If not, you can both just head back through the tunnel and go your own way. If it feels like a match, enjoy the unexpected view, walk back through the tunnel holding hands, and then hit one of the many bars or restaurants in the St. Pauli district.
Salt & Silver Restaurant
If the first impression of your date is very good you should go to one of Hamburg’s most popular restaurants with a great appeal to young and diverse peers. Salt & Silver is run by two guys who once quit their jobs to travel the world and surf the oceans. Now they run a restaurant with a Latin American cuisine, which is inspired by street food they had on their journey. Here you decide for one of the menus. They have at least six courses which will guarantee a long time to get to know each other. Should that not be enough, extend your date with some Pisco Sours or other great drinks they serve here. This is a place that will keep you feasting and sharing dreams of going places – maybe together.
Snack some delicacies at Izakaya
Should you be kind of insecure about the person you just met for the first time, try the Japanese bistro Izakaya in the Karo district. You don’t have to opt for a long menu here. Just order a glass of wine and one of the wonderful small delicacies. Is your date going well, just start a second round of plates and get another wine! Here you do not oblige to a long stay. You can easily decide how much time you want to spend, but still have an adequate dinner. If you’re lucky, someone will take hold of the music speakers and the small restaurants turns into a happening. The place has a good spirit of dropping in and out as you feel like it.
Turn the Wheel of Fortune at the Alsterhaus
Hamburg’s famous department store is not only a place for fashion and luxury lovers, the Alsterhaus also is home to some bistros and bars on its fourth floor. For your first date, you find a huge variety of options that serve everything you might desire on a Saturday afternoon or early evening date during the week. The variety of places all right next to each other give you the chance to let your date choose. You’ll get to know her or him better by her or his choice. You want burgers and fries or oysters and champagne? It’s all right here and allows you to have everything around you – even a spontaneous leave. As the historical institution will close by eight o’clock you have a welcoming limitedness to your situation. Make it a speed date, if needed.
A textile free quick-trip to the Vabali Spa
You want to make clear that you are dating to find someone for fun, but not for commitment? Suggest a quick-trip to Vabali outside of Hamburg. You will be amazed by the sheer size of this day spa. With 13 saunas, two pools, some hot tubs and countless water beds to relax, this place amazes with the many opportunities to draw yourself away from the crowds into the endless relaxation areas. As the whole place is textile free you will get to know each other quite fast. Should one of the calm rooms not be calm enough for the development of your date, just contact the reception and rent one of the rooms that the onsite hotel offers.
Rent a Boat at Anleger Hamburg
This is yet another location that offers both a beautiful outlook and options to have a more intimate time should your date go well. Visit this beach club on the shore of a canal during the day and have a drink. In case of a positive development of your afternoon flirt, hire a boat, row away and enjoy the intimacy of the many spots you reach from here with your boat. Hide the two of you in one of the smaller canals around this place in the shade of one of many massive trees around.
Go to a rave to PAL Club
You had a wonderful evening with your date so far, went dining and had drinks, but you don’t exactly know, how you want to take things from here? This is the perfect time to go to a club. PAL is guaranteed fun and always has the crowd dancing on several floors. Watch each other moving your bodies and you will soon learn whether the heat is on – or not. If not, you just dwell into the beat. Otherwise you will enjoy the heat together. Or you will find a situation that suits you. I once sat on a bench aside from the mingling crowd and yelled Rilke poems into someone’s ear. That situation turned into a great friendship.
Spend a spontaneous night at the Boston Hotel
This house seems a little bit odd in its rather hotel-free neighborhood, in between Altona and Sternschanze, but that makes it a great opportunity to just walk there from the last bar you have just been to together. With its spacious rooms and floor-length windows the centered bed seems like it was floating above the city. The Boston rooms convey a certain width that greatly caters to a night full of affection. The hotel offers to adjust your check-out time spontaneously. You can add hours the next morning. Once I checked in there with my girlfriend we had a good looking young man in front of us at the reception. He mentioned that the jacuzzi in his room has not been in the position as it looked like in the photos. He was immediately given a new room. With a jacuzzi in the right spot. We felt like he was totally capable of caring for a decent night. It was New Year’s Eve.
